Located within a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), we are privileged to be surrounded by some of Ireland’s most stunning natural landscapes. With this privilege comes the responsibility to protect and preserve our unique environment for future generations.

As part of our commitment to reducing waste and minimising our carbon footprint, we have implemented several eco-friendly initiatives:
Failte Ireland – Climate Action Programme
At Connemara Sands Hotel, we harness the power of the sun with our newly installed solar panels, reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. This clean, renewable energy solution is a key part of our commitment to sustainability and protecting our stunning natural surroundings. Located within a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), we strive to lead by example in preserving the environment for future generations.
Simple Green Travel
EV Charging for Sustainable Travel
At Connemara Sands Hotel, we are proud to support eco-friendly travel by offering EV chargers for our guests. Whether you drive a hybrid or a fully electric vehicle, our chargers make it convenient to reduce carbon emissions while exploring the beauty of Connemara. It’s one more way we’re working towards a greener future.
Waste Management
We are committed to reducing single-use plastics, including eliminating plastic straws, takeaway lids, toothpicks, and water bottles. Instead, we use biodegradable recycled card for takeaway coffee cups. We also strive to minimize reliance on kitchen cling film and aluminum foil.
We adhere to a strict recycling policy and a compliant food waste program, ensuring all waste is handled sustainably.
Energy Efficiency
Heat Pumps
Our new Luxury Double Rooms feature state-of-the-art air source heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling. Additionally, we are near the end of a hotel-wide program to replace all bulbs with energy-saving LEDs. Motion sensor lighting has also been introduced in key areas to reduce energy use further.
Towel Replacement
75% of guests are happy to reuse towels. Please consider reusing your towels.
A hanging towel will be left to reuse. A towel on the floor or in the bath will be replaced.
Slippers & Robes
As part of our sustainability initiative slippers and robes are not provided as standard. However, we are happy to provide both complimentary slippers and robes should you wish.

Local Sourcing
At Connemara Sands Hotel, we prioritize sourcing our food from local suppliers whenever possible. This approach not only reduces the carbon footprint of our menu but also supports the vibrant community of farmers, fishers, and artisans in the region. By choosing local, we ensure our guests enjoy the freshest, highest-quality ingredients while contributing to a sustainable and thriving local economy.
